Abstract

A destructive readout channel does not specify a thermodynamic implementation. We expand the thermal ledger of the shredder interface into three explicitly related accounts: complete energy and work, specified reset and resource restoration, and complete residual leakage. The framework does not replace established thermodynamics or introduce a new law. The principal result is a constructive non-identifiability statement. Even after the visible channel and spectator Hamiltonians are fixed, energy-conserving implementations can have different designated-reservoir energy gains and different resource-return states. A separate driven spectator changes external work without changing that visible channel. These examples establish underdetermination, not a violation of Landauer's principle and not an optimum cyclic erasure cost. Local proofs connect this statement to the finite Gibbs-reservoir identity βQ_B = ΔS_M + I(M: B) + D(ω_B‖τ_B). We give its initial-correlation correction, an archive-sensitive approximate-reset bound, and a quantitative finite-full-rank obstruction to exact pure reset. Positive complete entropy decrease is sufficient, but not necessary, for positive deposited heat. Zero heat does not imply retained quantum access. Append-only record entropy, quantum residual entropy, and hybrid output entropy are kept separate. A finite revival model has zero bath-energy change and exact recovery error (1 − |cos 2θ|)/2, while conserving finite constructions can share selected entropy histories and disagree completely on endpoint recovery. Temperature, a KMS prescription, a zero-temperature limit, and a geometrical thermal factor are different inputs or conclusions, not readings of a channel name. The contribution is an integrated, submission-oriented set of identities, counterexamples, and applicability tests. Its potential use is to make heat, reset, and recovery claims independently auditable without treating them as independent unconstrained variables. The underlying thermodynamic and quantum-information principles are attributed rather than claimed as new. No cyclic machine, Carnot efficiency, third-law theorem, continuum detector, gravitational endpoint, Page curve, island, Einstein dynamics, or spacetime emergence is constructed. O.1 on the cone remains texttt NOT_CLOSED.
